Melbourne's iconic CityLink motorway connects people and businesses in the northern, western and south-eastern suburbs to the central business district, Melbourne Airport and Port of Melbourne.
Opening to the public in 1999, CityLink was the first road project delivered by Transurban and provided Melbourne with its first cross-city connection and road tunnels. Since then, we have invested almost $2 billion into the corridor, including for the construction of more lanes and advanced on-road technology to help people get to where they want to go.
Led by Group General Manager, Vin Vassallo, our Victorian business is committed to working closely with our government partners to develop projects that improve the liveability of our cities.
We are currently working on a number of projects in partnership with the Victorian and Australian governments, including the CityLink Tulla Widening project. The 24 kilometre project, due for completion in 2018, will add more lanes and improve safety from Melbourne Airport through to Power Street. It also includes upgrades to major intersections and a new state-of-the-art freeway management system.
We are also partnering with the Victorian Government to progress plans for a much-needed alternative to the West Gate Bridge. The West Gate Tunnel Project will provide the city with a second major river crossing. In addition to slashing congestion and improving safety, it will take trucks off residential streets in the inner west, improve cycling and walking connections and create thousands of local jobs.
The project also incorporates the Monash Freeway Upgrade, which includes 30 kilometers of new lanes and smart technologies installed to improve traffic flow from Chadstone to Pakenham.
The successful delivery of our projects is underpinned by our approach to community engagement. We work closely to engage with local residents, community groups and businesses during planning and construction to understand their needs and concerns and to minimise impacts on local communities.
We believe in giving back to our local community too. The Herald Sun CityLink Run for the Kids hosts tens of thousands of Victorians as they run, jog or walk along CityLink to help raise funds for the Royal Children’s Hospital. Since the event began in 2006, more than $1.6 million has been raised for the hospital’s Good Friday Appeal.
Through our Citylink brand we are driven to provide customers with a great experience. A number of recent customer initiatives include our newly released Citylink smart phone app and a new fleet of incident response vehicles and crews who are ready assist 24/7.
