This week Transurban proudly hosted an industry roundtable at NeuRA in support of the Federal Government’s inquiry into progress under the National Road Safety Strategy 2011-2020. With Australia’s road fatalities and serious injury rates on the rise, the inquiry’s focus is on future priorities for making our roads safer.

The roundtable brought together representatives from infrastructure business, industry, government and academia to discuss embedding the Safe System approach, which recognises human’s make mistakes, are vulnerable to injuries and that road safety is a shared responsibility – we all have a role to play.  By creating a forgiving road system through safe roads, safe vehicles, safe speeds and safe people we can work towards eliminating fatalities and serious injuries on our roads. The roundtable focused on the opportunities, ease to implement, and level of agility needed to respond and barriers to implementation of the Safe System approach.

Liz Waller, Road Safety Specialist said “Transurban with NeuRA were very pleased to be able to support the inquiry through hosting of this roundtable. The level of participation, insights and commitment from industry was made very evident and we look forward to hearing the outcomes of the inquiry and working together to improve the safety on our road networks for all road users.”

The outcomes from Transurban’s roundtable will form an input to the inquiry, along with public submissions, consultations and forums conducted by the co-chairs, Associate Professor Jeremy Woolley and Dr John Crozier with key stakeholders.
